The basics

Is Bites really free?

Yes. Every feature is free today, including photo estimates, meal plans, recipes, groceries and progress. Bites Pro is an optional supporter plan that unlocks nothing; it pays for the servers and keeps Bites ad-free.

Do I need an account?

No. There's no sign-up. Your data stays on your iPhone and syncs through your own iCloud.

When can I download Bites?

Bites is in testing now and coming soon to the App Store, free, for iPhone and iPad. This site will link to it as soon as it's there.

Which devices does Bites run on?

iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 or later. There's no Android or web version, and no Apple Watch app yet.

Does Bites work in Turkish?

Yes. The whole app is in Turkish, the food database knows Turkish dishes and brands, and 155 of the 327 recipes come from Turkish cuisine. Bites follows your iPhone's language.

Logging and accuracy

How does Bites estimate calories from a photo?

An AI model names each food and estimates its weight in grams; where it can, Bites takes the calories and nutrients from a food database rather than the model. Each item is labelled High confidence, Estimate or Rough guess, and you can change any of it. How Bites estimates calories explains every step.

How accurate are photo estimates?

We haven't published an accuracy figure, because we haven't yet measured one we would stand behind. Estimates are best at identifying foods and weakest on hidden oil and portion size. Every item says how sure it is, and every number can be changed. Where estimates go wrong.

Can I log without a photo?

Yes. Describe the meal in words or by voice, scan a barcode or a nutrition label, search 8,000+ foods, or pick one of your own foods and saved meals.

Can I change the numbers?

Yes. Before you log, change names and grams. After you log, edit the calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, sugar and sodium of any entry. A number you type is never overwritten by a later estimate.

Are my meal photos stored?

Not on our server. The photo is analysed in memory and discarded; only the result is kept for 15 minutes so a retry doesn't cost a second analysis. A small thumbnail stays on your iPhone with the entry.

Meal planning and recipes

How does the meal plan work?

Bites suggests a recipe for each slot that fits that meal's share of your calories and protein, your diet style, allergies, dislikes, cuisines and cooking time, or you pick and make your own. Anything you chose, made or edited is never changed for you. More about meal planning.

Will the plan respect my allergies?

Yes. The nine allergens Bites tracks (gluten, dairy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, fish, shellfish and sesame), plus pork and alcohol, are hard filters: a recipe that contains one you avoid is never suggested, and if nothing fits a slot it stays empty. If an allergy is serious, still check the ingredients yourself.

How many recipes are there?

327, 155 of them from Turkish cuisine, each with ingredients, steps and nutrition per serving. You can also write your own or import one from a link or a photo of a cookbook page. Browse the recipes.

Are the recipe photos real?

They're illustrations made with AI image models to show the finished dish. The ingredients, amounts, steps and nutrition come from the recipe itself, not from the picture.

Does Bites make a grocery list?

Yes. It builds one list from your plan with real amounts, grouped by aisle, leaves out what you have at home, and can send it to Apple Reminders. How groceries work.

Privacy and your data

Where is my data stored?

On your iPhone and in your private iCloud database, which we can't read. Our server only sees what you ask it to analyse (a photo, a description, a label or a recipe link) and a random device identifier used for fair-use limits. The privacy policy has the details.

Does Bites work with Apple Health?

Yes, if you allow it. Bites reads steps, active energy, workouts, weight, body fat, waist and sleep, and writes your meals' energy and nutrients, water, weight, measurements and the workouts you do in Bites.

Can I export my data?

Yes. You › Settings › Your data › Prepare CSV export creates a spreadsheet of your log, weights, water and workouts.

How do I delete my data?

You › Settings › Your data › Delete all my data erases everything on your device and in your iCloud. For data linked to your device on our server, email us; the privacy policy explains how.

Is Bites medical advice?

No. Bites gives general nutrition information and estimates. Talk to a doctor or dietitian before using it to manage a medical condition, during pregnancy, or if you have a history of disordered eating.

Bites Pro

What does Bites Pro include?

Nothing is locked behind it. Pro is a supporter plan: $39.99 a year with a 7-day free trial, or $6.99 a month (US prices). It pays for the AI and servers, keeps Bites ad-free, and gives you priority support from a person within a day and early access to new features.

How do I cancel Bites Pro?

In iOS Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. Cancelling keeps Pro until the end of the period you paid for, and Bites reminds you the day before a free trial ends.
